Pre-Application Consultation

Pre-application Consultation

Before you start to prepare your planning application we recommend that you familiarise yourself with the issues that will affect how your application will be assessed by your planning authority. Pre-application consultation is one of the most effective ways to do this and is generally regarded as the first stage in the planning application process. The video below outlines the steps involved. An index of planning authority pre-application consultation forms and other useful information is also provided.

Please note that the information contained within this webpage relates specifically to a standard application for planning permission. For more complex applications we recommend that you seek advice from your local planning authority. Your local planning authority is the city or county council with responsibility for making decisions on planning applications for the area where your site is located.

The Act is being commenced on a phased basis to facilitate a smooth transition from the existing legislation to the new legislation. It is important to note that transitional arrangements are in place. This means that certain elements of the work of the OPR remain under the previous legislation during this time.
