Research, Training & Public Awareness

In accordance with Section 549 of the Planning and Development Act 2024, the OPR is responsible for driving national research, education, training and public awareness to highlight the role and benefit of good planning.

We deliver education and training programmes for both elected members and staff of local authorities, regional assemblies and the Commission.

The aim of the OPR’s education, training, research and public awareness programmes is to improve knowledge sharing and learning across the 31 local authorities, the three regional assemblies, An Coimisiún Pleanála and wider stakeholders such as professional bodies and interest groups thereby helping to maximise efficiency, synergy and consistency across the planning system.
