Preparing and Submitting a Planning Application

Most forms of development require planning permission. Where planning permission is required to carry out development or to change the use of land or buildings, you must prepare and lodge a planning application with your planning authority. The video below outlines the steps involved in preparing and submitting a planning application. An index of planning authority planning application forms and other useful information is also provided.

Please note that the information contained within this webpage relates specifically to a standard application for planning permission. For more complex applications we recommend that you seek advice from your local planning authority. Your local planning authority is the city or county council with responsibility for making decisions on planning applications for the area where your site is located.
