Promoting Planning as a Career of Choice

The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) is actively working to promote planning as a career of choice for students, graduates and career changers. To this end, the OPR has teamed up with CareersPortal.ie, Ireland’s leading career guidance website, to create a dedicated planning profile.

The CareersPortal website has 33 career sectors. The new planning profile sits within three of these sectors namely:

dedicated planning page has also been created on the CareersPortal website with access to a wealth of information about the work of planners, the third level planning courses that are available across the island of Ireland, and the wide range of career opportunities that exist.

The OPR will continue to work with the CareersPortal team to expand the information that is available on the website and to shine a spotlight on the key role that planners play in our society, the diversity of their work and the exciting career opportunities that exist in the public, private and voluntary sectors.

The Planning and Development Act 2024 was signed into law on 17 October 2024. The Act is being commenced on a phased basis to facilitate a smooth transition from the existing legislation to the new legislation. It is important to note that transitional arrangements are in place. This means that certain elements of the work of the OPR remain under the previous legislation during this time.

This website will be updated at the earliest opportunity to correspond with the commencement of the various Parts of the Act.
