New Planning Leaflet Launched on Large-scale Residential Development (LRD)

The OPR and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage recently launched a new planning leaflet on the topic of Large-scale Residential Development (LRD).

This leaflet explains LRD and the procedures involved in applying for planning permission for this type of development. The LRD application process was introduced to replace the Strategic Housing Development (SHD) application process. LRD applications are made directly to local authorities.

Like all previously published leaflets this leaflet is full of practical advice and contains information on how best to engage with the planning system.

Read and download the Large-scale Residential Development (LRD) leaflet here.

The other 15 planning leaflets are available here.

Disclaimer

The Planning and Development Act 2024 was signed into law on 17 October 2024. The Act is being commenced on a phased basis to facilitate a smooth transition from the existing legislation to the new legislation. It is important to note that transitional arrangements are in place. This means that certain elements of the work of the OPR remain under the previous legislation during this time.

This website will be updated at the earliest opportunity to correspond with the commencement of the various Parts of the Act.

Information on the commencement of the Act is available on the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage website.
