The Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 is designed to provide information to the public about who is lobbying whom about what.

Designated Public Officials under the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015

Section 6(4) of the Act requires each public body to publish a list of Designated Public Officials of the body. The list allows:

  • members of the public to identify those persons who are Designated Public Officials; and
  • lobbyists filing a return to the Register to source a Designated Public Official’s details.

The Planning and Development Act 2024 was signed into law on 17 October 2024. The Act is being commenced on a phased basis to facilitate a smooth transition from the existing legislation to the new legislation. It is important to note that transitional arrangements are in place. This means that certain elements of the work of the OPR remain under the previous legislation during this time.
