This webinar will seek to demonstrate how rural transport planning and town and village planning can deliver more sustainable development. The presentations will be delivered by Conor O’Donovan, Senior Transport Planner with the National Transport Authority, Frances Byrne, Manager of Local Link Laois Offaly and Conor O’ Donovan (NTA) and Cormac Ross, Resident Engineer with the Transportation Department in Meath County Council. The three presentations will focus on:
- Rural public transport provision and current initiatives to expand rural public transport in Ireland – Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan;
- Implementing new Connecting Ireland rural public transport services;
- Rural town transport service planning and implementation.
The aim of the webinar is to provide elected members with:
- Practical information regarding the current development and longer-term planning of rural public transport services;
- An overview of ways to better coordinate rural public transport and their statutory planning functions in relation to town and village plans and for the betterment of rural communities;
- Knowledge in relation to the systems for the overall management and funding of rural public transport services and the operational and resourcing context such services must operate in.
